Perhaps the most powerful text in the Old Testament concerning giving can be found in Malachi 3:8-10, where God accused the Israelites of robbing Him. God's chosen people questioned this claim and asked, "How do we rob You?" God's response was, "By not making the payments of the tenth and the contributions." God then went on to make a powerful challenge: "Test Me in this way. ... See if I will not open the floodgates of heaven and pour out a blessing for you without measure" (v.10). That is a powerful promise from our gracious, giving God!

Tithing is Obedience to God in the area of “Got To” Giving:

In order for us to show God our love and thankfulness for the grace and mercy He continues to give us, we must be obedient to His Word and His will (John 14:15). Tithing is God’s plan for funding the Kingdom work that He allows us the privilege to experience. More importantly, the “Got To” tithe is our chance to show our love for Him through faithful obedience. The word "tithe" literally means tenth or 10%. Tithing, or giving ten percent of our income is the “Got To” step of obedience as described in Malachi 3:6-17. We are literally giving back a small portion of what already belongs to Him. All that we have, or hope to have, comes from Him and belongs to Him. The Bible says that tithing is a reminder that God is the supplier of everything (1 Chronicles 29:14). Giving through the Biblical principle of the “Got To” tithe teaches us to always put God first in our lives.  This empowers FBW to fulfill the Great Commission locally and in all areas of the world.

Offerings are the “Get To” Gifts above and beyond the Tithe:

The "Get To” offering is anything we give above the 10% tithe. In Malachi 3:10, God says, "Go ahead; I dare you; See if you can out-give me." The “Get To” offering is a way for each of us to raise our level of generosity (Luke 12:48). You can give additional gifts to the general budget, Missions Fund, Hope for the Cities Center, 1870 Legacy Giving/Trust Fund, Mortgage Debt Elimination, and more. So go ahead; God has given us permission to test Him and experience the blessing of being generous at a much higher level (Proverbs 11:24-25)!
